Associate, Direct Originations

Clarus Capital is seeking an industry-experienced individual to join our Direct Originations team as an Associate.

Ideal candidates are equipment finance business development professionals, with 2-4 years’ experience in the equipment leasing and finance industry. We are seeking individuals who specialize in originating new business through direct prospecting channels. You will brand Clarus Capital’s financing solutions as a strategic competitive advantage. We provide our sales organization with tools focused on success and take advantage of our proprietary finance marketing expertise and significant business development support. This role could be performed from a remote location or an existing office.

Ideal candidates should possess:

  • Undergraduate Degree with business concentration such as Marketing, Accounting, Finance, or Economics
  • Two plus years of experience with a proven record of successfully prospecting and cold calling for new business volume
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with prospects, clients, and referral sources.
  • Ability to consistently source and close transaction ranging from $2M to $30M
  • Excellent verbal, negotiation, written, communication and presentation skills.

Vice President, Direct Originations

Clarus Capital is seeking qualified industry-experienced individuals with demonstrated success developing prospects and client relationships to join our Direct Originations team.

This position is responsible for originating large ticket equipment finance transactions with companies sponsored by private equity firms. While we provide our business development organization with tools for success, the individual must be a self-starter and capable of incorporating data provided by management into their calling effort. They must be a results driven professional capable of working independently to continuously canvas for equipment finance prospects and maintain a sustained calling strategy. The successful candidate must understand and incorporate Clarus’s target market criteria (credit, ownership, pricing, and structure) in their marketing efforts. Additionally, he/she must have a strong understanding of the sales process, excel at generating leads, championing transactions, building sustainable relationships, and closing opportunities. The ideal candidate will have proven sales experience, working knowledge of MS office, familiarity with analyzing financial statements, and excellent selling, communication, and negotiation skills. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Sales Origination with private equity sponsored firms
  • Ability to consistently source and close $50+ million in new funded volume annually 
  • Meet annual goals through successful implementation of sales strategies and tactics 
  • Utilize our CRM system to track, monitor, and market to prospects and customers
  • Generate leads and build relationships-planning and organizing daily work schedule to call on existing customers and prospects 
  • Prior experience covering private Equity Sponsors
  • Strong and verifiable relationships with senior finance executives of direct prospects, private equity groups, investment banks, advisors, law and accounting firms, the lending and leasing community and other centers of influence 
  • Establish, develop, and maintain positive business and client relationships 
  • Communicate and coordinate with Clarus team members (management, credit, documentation, and operations) on pipeline prospects. 

Essential Qualifications: 
  • 5+ years in the leveraged finance or equipment finance industry with a proven history of originating and closing structured lease and loan transactions
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills 
  • Established relationships with Private Equity Firms
  • Proficiency with CRM software and prospecting databases 
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, or related field 
  • Initiative and ability to work both independently and as a team member

Corporate Intern

Description: The Clarus Capital corporate Intern will be a dynamic role, involved in or responsible for a variety of important strategic projects across a growing, entrepreneurial organization. The Intern will have a unique opportunity to work closely with executive management across all functions, including Investment/Portfolio Management and Finance.

The Intern will contribute to the creation of new systems, a proprietary database and management processes which will be critical to the organization’s long-term success. In the process of performing project-related work, the Intern will be exposed to fundamentals of various financial markets, investment considerations, capital structure analysis, data mining as well as a wide variety of Middle Market companies across multiple industry sectors.

Opportunity: As part of a team of fewer than 20 total employees, the Intern will have a unique opportunity to make a significant impact alongside a team of veteran investment professionals and executives.

Focus: The Intern’s primary goal will be to support and contribute to the completion of all assigned projects.

Hours: 20 per week with the potential for additional hours, as necessary.

Location: The position will be hybrid with a combination of remote as well as in-person presence required in our downtown Boston Financial District office.

Compensation: $20 per hour.

Position Timing / Duration: Twelve weeks beginning mid-to-late September, with the potential for extensions as necessary and agreeable.

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer and Chief Credit Officer.

Ideal Candidate: Currently enrolled Junior, Senior or Graduate Student with a passion for technology, computer science, database management, machine learning along with a keen interest in investment, finance and capital markets who is pursuing a dual major, major/minor and/or course concentrations across an IT, Finance and Accounting curriculum.

Requirements:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.5
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office suite
  • Database management system experience including data mining, interpretation, and report creation and generation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic and a natural interest in building things
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Professionalism and confidentiality
  • Strong collaborator who works well both in team settings and autonomously
  • Ability to manage deadlines and multiple tasks
  • Comfort with ambiguity, flexibility and adapting to shifting priorities
  • Willingness to learn and be coached
  • Aptitude for problem solving with both creative and critical thinking skills
  • Patience and ability to communicate complex systems to people of all skill levels
  • Demonstrated independent research skills

The following experience is not required but is a plus:
  • Experience in CRM platforms
  • Advanced Excel manipulation skills
  • Experience managing a database and/or large data sets
